Plagiarism awareness and use of Turnitin

The Turnitin plagiarism screening service identifies pieces of text in students' work that match with existing electronic texts. It can be used for assessed essays and also for general formative purposes to improve academic writing skills.

Plagiarism: Awareness and avoidance (for students)

In this free byte-sized lunch time session we will provide support in learning how to avoid unintentional plagiarism. You will have a chance to put a piece of your own writing through Turnitin and interpret the results. Please note that specialist discipline-specific guidance is not provided in this session.

Changes to Turnitin staff course and Turnitin User Group

Due to low attendance numbers, the termly Turnitin staff course and face-to-face meetings of the Turnitin user group will no longer be offered. A new VLE User Group (for staff WebLearn, Canvas and Turnitin users) is currently being planned and will meet face-to-face on a regular basis.

To continue supporting staff users of Turnitin, the Centre for Teaching and Learning offers consultation on request. Please get in touch with us at contact@ctl.ox.ac.uk.

User Group site in WebLearn

The Turnitin User Group site in WebLearn is still active and we encourage you to make use of it. The site is ‘joinable’ (if your colleagues would like to join); and it is possible to ‘unjoin’ if you no longer wish to be a member (go to Site Info, and click ‘Unjoin’). This will automatically unsubscribe you from the associated mailing list.

Mailing lists

The Turnitin User Group site has a mailing list that is open for postings by all site members, and messages will be received by all site members: tii-community@weblearn.ox.ac.uk
