The Certified Membership of Association for Learning Technology (CMALT) programme is a series of workshops to support staff who have learning technology or digital education as the main element of their role at Oxford to gain an internationally recognised professional accreditation.
The CMALT programme will support you to prepare an application to gain recognition for your role. Upon a successful application you will be awarded either Associate CMALT, CMALT or Senior CMALT, aligned to your roles and responsibilities.
What is CMALT (Certified Membership of Association for Learning Technology)?
The CMALT Accreditation Framework is managed by the Association for Learning Technology (ALT) and provides pathways to peer-assessed accreditation for learning technology professionals in the UK and internationally. ALT defines learning technology as the broad range of communication, information and related technologies that can be used to support learning, teaching and assessment.
CMALT is an opportunity for you to gain recognition for your learning technology skills, share practice with peers, and support your continuing professional development.
Who can apply?
The programme is open to staff who have learning technology or digital education as the main element of their role, including learning technologists, administrators, IT support staff, librarians, academic and research staff.
Are there prerequisites?
There are no prerequisites for applying to join the CMALT programme. In the first workshop, we will support you to identify which CMALT pathway is appropriate for you.
How do I apply and when is it delivered?
To apply for a place on the programme, you will need to complete the CMALT programme application form. If you do not have an SSO, please contact us.
The programme comprises five interactive workshops designed to support you in preparing your CMALT portfolio. A small amount of pre-workshop preparation is required, and participants are supported by a dedicated Canvas site. There will be regular office hours scheduled for you to gain feedback on your submission.

How is it assessed?
Your CMALT portfolio is assessed externally by the Association of Learning Technology (ALT).
After the first workshop, if you think that CMALT is right for you, you will need to register for CMALT via the ALT website. Once you have registered, you have up to two years to submit your CMALT portfolio (ie you can decide when you submit your portfolio within two years after your registration).
What do I get upon completion?
Upon completing the CMALT Support Programme at Oxford and successfully passing the ALT assessment, participants are awarded Associate CMALT, CMALT or Senior CMALT.
Is there a fee?
The CMALT programme is free for all Oxford staff. However, you will need pay a fee to ALT for your CMALT registration. The fee varies depending on the level of accreditation you are seeking. Registration covers the accreditation process, assessment and re-assessment if required and remains valid for two years, or the next available submission deadline after two years.
