How can I contribute to the symposium programme?

You are invited to submit proposals for lightning talks and posters at the 2024 Teaching and Learning Symposium on Monday 17 June (Week 9 TT24). 

Submit your proposals before 12noon, Monday 13 May (note extended date) and help shape this celebration of innovation and excellence in teaching and learning at Oxford.

Option 1: Lightning talks 

The symposium will include two 60-minute lightning talk sessions. Each session will include six speakers, plus discussion. 

Staff and academics across the collegiate University are invited to submit proposals for 5-minute 'lightning' talks (maximum 3 slides) on the following themes: 

Redesigning summative assessments 

Have you recently redesigned summative assessments on your course or programme and come and share your drivers for change and associated new practice.  

This is your opportunity to share the impact of this with your peers, and outline how you have maintained academic robustness and challenge reflective of the high-quality teaching and Oxford's outstanding students while providing a broader range of assessment tasks for students to complete.   

Embedding digital education 

This is your opportunity to submit proposals for lightning talks that focus on one of the four goals of the University’s Digital Education Strategy 2023-27.   

  1. How you are providing foundations for digital education 
  2. The interventions that make education more inclusive for students and staff 
  3. How digital technologies are bringing your class to the world or the world to your class 
  4. Experiments and innovations that open new opportunities. 

Share your drivers for change and associated new practice. 

Option 2: Posters 

Academics and professional services staff  across the collegiate University are invited to submit proposals for posters that communicate excellence in teaching and learning. This could include posters sharing practice in relation to inclusive teaching and assessment, innovations in teaching and assessment, developing students academic skills and digital education.  

How to submit your proposal? 

To submit your proposal for a lightning talk or poster, please complete the call for contributions form

In the form, you will be ask for a title and abstract (no more than 300 words). You will be also asked to provide one or two key learning points for the audience (no more than 50 words). 

If successful, please follow the guidance for preparing your talk and/or poster

What are the key dates for submissions? 

Symposium registration opens Monday 8 April (Week -1 TT24)

Deadline for submissions

Notification of decisions  

Wednesday 15 May (Week 4 TT24) 

Final posters (digital format) to be submitted to organiser
